2026 Heritage Build-off Get-together: Celebrating Craftsmanship, Community and an Incredible Fundraising Achievement
Rubio Monocoat recently brought together the makers, sponsors and charity beneficiary of the 2026 Heritage Build-off for a special get-together celebrating the success of this remarkable project and its online auction. Held on Friday, 9 October, the get-together was an opportunity to reflect on the journey, recognise the incredible talent involved and celebrate a shared achievement in support of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).
The day began with conversations and networking among the 12 makers and supporting sponsors, providing an opportunity for everyone to reconnect, share experiences and reflect on the months of hard work that went into creating the furniture pieces. A short presentation followed, highlighting the success of the Heritage Build-off Auction and the impressive fundraising result achieved through the collective efforts of everyone involved.
One of the day’s highlights was the awards ceremony, where the makers received their prizes and trophies in recognition of their participation, craftsmanship and dedication to the project. The ceremony celebrated the creativity, skill and passion demonstrated throughout the Build-off, while acknowledging the contributions that helped make the initiative such a success.
Another particularly meaningful moment was the official handover of the auction cheque to CANSA. Through the online auction, an incredible R229,333.00 was raised for the Cancer Association of South Africa. This outstanding achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished when talented makers, committed sponsors and a supportive community unite behind a worthy cause. Every furniture piece contributed to a project that combined exceptional craftsmanship with a meaningful charitable impact.
Following the awards and cheque handover, everyone enjoyed a delicious smoked meat lunch prepared by ‘Up in Smoke’. The relaxed atmosphere provided the perfect opportunity for further conversations, with the makers socialising, sharing stories and discussing their experiences throughout the Heritage Build-off and auction.

Their involvement played an important role in bringing the project to life.
